The Truth About Islam
We all have some knowledge about religion, whether it be a little or a lot. Most of which or even all of which are things we have heard, but most often not researched. The question is, how much of this knowledge about being a Muslim is aligned with the original religion of Islam? With Allah's will, I will provide various insights and my personal commentary in this column during the month of Ramadan. Most may be things you will read for the first time and find surprising!
After having studied to grasp the true origin of Islam for 34 years, I realized that the understanding of Muslimism and the religion of Islam are very different from each other.
The casual understanding of Muslimism harbors much that contradicts intelligence, logic and science; and is based on personal interpretations, rather than knowledge derived from the original source. Unfortunately, these informal "Muslim" teachings are assumed to be the basis of the religion of Islam.
There are 2 main interpretations of Islam; the large majority is the group imprisoned in the cocoons of yesteryear. They claim that religion is believing in the relayed information 'literally'. According to them, contemplation and research are forbidden! The smaller group manage to shred open their cocoons and think with open and inquiring minds. They try to understand the religion of Islam.
Herewith, we will reveal some truths we have come to contemplate and research.
The concept of Allah explained by the Koran and the concept of God that people from any religion say that they believe have extremely different meanings.
The laws announced in the name of Islam are not the rules of an incidental God up in the heavens, but rather the explanation of the system we live in by Allah, the creator of the system itself.
Many matters covered in the religion of Islam have bases and justifications that can be explained through modern science. In fact we will be presenting these during the month of Ramadan. In the same way that no one living on this earth has the authority to speak or judge in the name of Allah, unless they're claiming to be a prophet, none of us has the right to judge another in the name of Allah!
Due to the mechanics of the system, human beings will face the consequences of their actions. Thus, they urgently need to realize and understand the truth about life so that they can use their time in a way that they won't regret in the afterlife.
As the Koran describes the system and order that Allah created, everything in the Koran has an intelligent, logical, scientific explanation. If we are short of explaining it at times, it is because we haven't been able to solve the logic and the system of things, not because the topic mentioned lacks logic.
In this first article, let's be absolutely clear about the following: All the practices of worship that Mohammad(SAW) suggested according to the Koran are not a part of a package. Instead, they are acts of worship that one can observe to the limits of his/her ability. Everyone does the best they can. They will reap the rewards of what they have done, and suffer the consequences for what they haven't.
Let's say that you are able to fast, but not to perform the daily prayers (salat). You must never say: "I can't pray so I won't bother to fast either," and don't be fooled by those who tell you otherwise. Practice whatever you are capable of. If there was a fire in a section of your home you wouldn't let the whole house burn down, you'd try to save as much of it as you can. Therefore when, life is running out, utilize your time as much as possible with anything you can do. If you are a lady and cannot cover your hair, this shouldn't prevent you from fasting, prayer or pilgrimage. Because, wearing a headscarf is one thing, prayer, fasting or pilgrimage is something else. Because, the suggestions in the Koran, I repeat, are not to be packaged, everyone does what they can. Of course, practicing them all is ideal, blessings to the ones who can.
